Thread: any tips to remove heater fan switch from 96 Disco

I had my fan speeds play up a month ago, if you drop the passenger side upper foot well cover off and look in towards the centre you will find the fan resistor (I think thats what its called) youl see a plug with four wires hanging out of it !, I brought a good second hand one in case and when I had a look the plug had just fallen out and when connected it worked magicly ! Now I have a spare

My problem is that it works and then cuts out, I just tap the sliding switch knob gently with my finger and she works again. I believe they loose contact and a emery rub gets the contacts working properly again.

I have pulled one of these out before in my '93 ( I think your's is the same), they are held together with 3 tags down each side of the switch.

Be careful, the thing falls apart once you open it but the emery solution will work.

Getting to the switch is sort of difficult:

For the knobs, gentle use of vice grips to pull them off the posts work (emphasis "gentle")

Then the front panel comes off with two screws

Now pull the radio, clock,coin tray and drinks tray and take the facia off. This is hardest bit as the plastic can become brittle and break if you force it. The heater assembly cannot be maneuvered without the facia off.
