D2 - no nipple on transfer case for CDL...mods or replacement

Hi all - my virginal post.

I have an 02 D2 V8 Manual without the CDL nipple. The box part number is for a transfer case without CDL internals. I understand that I need more than just the output housing, but internals aswell, but dont know exactly what they are. I suspect that the parts and time to stick them in wouldnt be worth it and my only real option is an 04 on transfer case (if I want newer and a bit quieter) or go an older Disco transfer case (or Defender and get a bit lower ratio to suit my 31 wheels).

Has anyone looked into this/had this stuff done. I assume that once the box is in/done the plug thats near the transfer case at the moment gets plugged into the top of the transfer case and the diff lock light on the dash will illuminate properly when the CDL is engaged?

    Thanks all.

    Cheers

An early Disco2 transfer will also do it. I don't think the other transfers have the correct electric switching on them for the electronics. The computer senses hi/lo range and alters the throttle sensitivity and I think possibly cruise control. I cant imagine that it would be a big issue if the switch was missing though. I'm also pretty sure the D2 transfers have the Q designation for quiet gears.

Welcome to the forum Ozscott, i had the same issue you have, no CDL internals.
My solution was to find a good second hand front output housing (mine came from a D1), with cdl internals and install it onto my existing transfer case, with some minor changes. You then need to install a linkage to be able to operate it from the cab. The front output housings with cdl can be difficult to find as people generally dont want to split a good transfer case, but they can be found. I got mine through this forum for $150 and made up a mechanical linkage, again with help from this forum.
If you go the route of changing the whole TC you'll be looking at around the 2 grand mark + a linkage to operate it.
Is definately a worthwhile mod as changes your Disco from effectively an AWD to a 4WD.
