Topping up engine coolant on TD5 D2.

My understanding is that if coolant needs to be topped up straight water can be used as opposed to coolant, however at what stage is too much water? Currently my coolant level is at the bottom of the overflow resovoir, if I was to put that much water in would it become an issue?

Should be ok. There is a range to have the coolant levels within. Its also probably a better proposition than mixing in different coolant.

if you know what coolant you have in your cooling system......
then its better to top it up with the same stuff....premixed to the correct ratio.......

but you must know what youve got in there......

and coolant should be flushed out and changed every 2 years......

the Td5 should have the red coolant......with OAT (organic acid technology).......

if you dont know what brand etc coolant is in the cooling system.....then top up only with water......
yes this will dilute the concentration......but not enough to make much difference......
if you find you are constantly topping it up.....then thats a different story.......

And with water, I would not use tap water. Only demineralised water.

    Thumbs up

Thanks to all for your feedback.

The level seems to have gone down very slowly since the last service 11 months ago. The service department at the dealer told me that there was a stain on the bottom of the water pump but that the bulletins from Land Rover said no action needed to be taken if this occurred. I assume this is where the coolant has gone.
