Thread: Adjustable A-Frame Balljoint

Back in February I posted a couple of pics and an explanation about how I modified my A-Frame balljoint to make it stronger and to keep the ability to adjust it.

Recently the dreaded Defender clunk had begun to return.
At first I thought I was just losing the knack of doing smooth gear changes.
Rocking the vehicle showed that the diff could tilt backwards and forwards slightly.
I could hardly see any movement at the ball joint, but as I had replaced all the other bushes, I thought that had to be the source of the clunk.
I undid my locknuts, tightened up the top bolts less than a turn and the clunk has gone.
It obviously doesn't take much wear in that ball joint to create the clunk.

I am guessing that if you went into Bendethra via Dry Creek, you came out via Hanging Mt and Little Sugarloaf Rd. My recollection of the route in from Dry Creek is that it takes a fair while.
Bendethra remains my favorite camping spot, but lately I have been exploring other local spots and have found a couple of pleasant camping spots like the Buckenbowra River at the bottom end of the Corn Trail and a spot on the Deua River at the end of Rebecca Fire Trail just beyond German Creek Road.
Were any parts of the Bendethra trip still damp and slippery after the recent rain? I have been there 4 or 5 times this year, but have always been careful to go when I know the track will be dry.

Allan, it takes around 3 hours from Dry Creek, was guiding a newby, showing him how to handle some rough terrain, amazingly the tracks in and out were dry and dusty. I'll have to check out those other spots, I was surprised at the amount of rubbish, esp. beer cans and bottles at Bendethra, bloody redneck slobs, if you can cart it in, you can cart it out, if it keeps up the NPWS will end up closing it down, I have been seriously thinking of a Diesel Defender, but funds are tight at the moment, I guess I'll have to settle for my SeriesIII with the 2.25 Diesel, when I rebuild the engine, that is, Regards Frank.
