    D2 Steering Damper

I'm looking at steering mods & wanted to know if anybody could give me feedback on using the steering damper from these guys
    http://www.4wd1.com/rtc_damper.htm

Its an adjustable return to centre model. Dont know how it would stand up off road of on long highway jaunts.

Have previously used Bilstiens - but saw this & was interested.

    Thx

I'd be interested on comments from anyone using this too, my damper is past its use by date

I have the Xtra Heavy Duty RTC steering damper on my D2
and have noticed the difference in a few ways

No bump steer whatsoever across rough roads at speed (off road)

Returns to centre much easier than a tube shock as a steering damper

Gives better on road feel (Heavier Wheel)

Id recommend one as I think they make a marked difference

The one that suits the D2 is a bit different looking its eye to eye instead of pin to pin and has an aluminium collar either end much tougher looking if you ask me

    I have one too.
Good road feel, especially off-road compared to the worn out stockie.
Beware it puts extra pressure on a questionable landrover power steer pump system.
I try to do bigger turning circles/3 point turns when possible rather than load the power steer system up.

    Thx Ken

14 mins in all, cause by std I will install it back to front, & spend 2 minutes chasing the wrapper around the garage cursing myself.

    Cheers

I've used both 4way RTC and Bilstein and would personally recommend you stick with Bilstein... Whilst the RTC is an ok feature in some situations, I reckon Billies provide improved bump-steer control and will definitely last longer. The spring in the RTC will pretty much last forever, but the damping function will be lucky to last 50K k...and is actually pretty crappy to start with...

    Update.

Spoke with the supplier. He espoused great qty of sales worldwide as attested to by his ebay feedback being 1600 odd. "over 40% comes directly from the RTC damper".

No discount for group buys. Next price break required buying 1000 units.
Wow thats more than he's even sold on theivbay (40%@1600=640)

Even at twice the price Bilsteins must far outstrip this.

Looks like I stick with Billies for teh new damper.

For the record I already have a 2" lift OME Nitrocharger kit fitted ex dealer when new. Looking for a bit more from steering by way of modding the damper. Declined ACE on purchase. 1 less system to ***** itself.
