    Talking Newbie, Some tech questions

Hi Baz is the name, A couple of tech questions re 1993 disco 3.9 ? v8. Injectors I have had them serviced was adviced 1 was pretty shot. What is the after market brand available in AUST. Read a forum which stated pink Ford????

MAF, Can they be serviced or are they a swap for a new one. Car running rich adviced can't adjust Maf down further.

And last but not least. What engine transplants available, was thinking a holden V6 in the future. Any pros cons or links to who may do a kit.

I have search forums but may have missed links. any help appreciated.

    g'day baz welcome !
before considering conversion you might want to compare power/torque figures on your existing engine and on the proposed implant .
just to make sure your going to improve things!

why are you considering conversion (if you don't mind me asking)

keep the 3.9, it has a better fuel consumption ratio

    Hi Bazzle
    WELCOME ABOARD!!!!!
Replace the temp sender, this question pops up all the time.A faulty sender tricks the computer into beliving the engine is cold and makes it run rich.
The MAF can be cleaned with electronics style contact cleaner.
Im sure one of the v8 owners that have had this problem will pop in soon with advice.
Not worth downgrading to a V6,a lot of gogo can be had from the little rover V8!!!!

    Talking Tech hints

Thanks for the rapid replies. Great site.
OK, Just speculating in relation to engine swap, quite happy at the moment. I see one suggestion is to check the temp sender. Excuse my ignorance are we talking about the sender which shows water temp or one involved in the EFI system. If so can you let me know the position, I have a manuel to refer to. Just a point my Taco doesnt work could this effect the mixture.

Baz, on the rear of the plenum cover there is the Idle Air Control valve, it has a rubber hose and an electrical plug going to it. First check if the 3 allen headed bolts are tight, remove the valve, clean it with carb cleaner or better upper cylinder decoking cleaner (Subaru has a good one), clean the electrical contacts and refit and see how it goes. Could also be the MAF, get some MAF or carby cleaner and spray in the small hole in the upper left hand corner, also what AndyLandy said, let us know what works and what doesn't, BTW welcome to the Forum, Regards Frank.

    Welcome Baz,

The tacho outlet from the alternator, A terminal with the letter 'W' on it is an input into the engine ECU. It helps calculate idle and fuelling. It is possiblle someone has fitted an aftermarket alternator without tacho outlet to your vehicle, as in 1993 it still had V belts etc. and there are some cheaper alternatives to the original alternator...

    Hi Baz, welcome.

Keep the V8, plenty of potential there. They are easily worked. Forced air induction systems, gas etc. GMH ecotec V6 is way underpowered for your vehicle.

For injectors check our RPI Engineering & buy stateside whilst the dollar is up.
