Or, you could buy one of these rare earth magnet pullers and get the broken bit out more easily:

best not compare the Rover driveline to a GQ or GU as we don't come off very favourably.....

Yep, if you want to drop all the broken nasty's in with your centre, they're an excellent idea

if you break a front axle you will still be able to progress on the rear in normal terrain, and vice-versa. the main worry is that bits of broken axle may find themselves in the diff where they can cause all hell.
the only way to fix that if you have broken something is to remove the axle shafts of the damaged axle front/rear and also take the appropriate drive shaft off.
that way the diff will not turn and therefore will not grind anymore metal, you can them drive on the remaining axle with the centre diff locked, either a front or rear wheel drive disco.
of course you run the risk of introducing rubbish into the wheel bearings without the axles in place,.
Best to leave the axle in there, as when removint it, you only introduce rubbish into the housing, they snap and the broken bits generally remain captive, ALWAYS remove the centre to remove the axle bit when you get home as its the on;y way to clean everything properly

Remember not to mistake a broken axle with a CV

???? Their the same in the front and practically the same size, spline count and material in the rear, why do you think they're any stronger?

Drivers with series Landy's that have holden motor's, without upgrading the drive-line can be in peril, too much right foot at the wrong time, eg- if the wheel bounces up in the air up and over rocks then hoof it, and as it comes back down, and grips, it has the potential to snap, as has happened to friends Landy's. It comes down to driving sympatheticaly to the vehicle, don't rush big obstacles.

    Bang+silence=an axle

Bang+crunching=a CV (or diff centre with stock stuff)

    General rule of thumb
