Blah..... drive it right and dont go nuts and you wont break anything....

i do some gnarly stuff and i have not yet broken anything. ok i twisted a tailshaft from sitting on a rock, but otherwise... i have not broken a CV or Axle...

the biggest killer is too much right foot when the traction is not there, then when you get traction the torque has to go somewhere..... and it does.... then POP

Like i said, I generally drive fairly easy on the vehicle and to suit the conditions so nothing should happen. But at least now if it does go 'POP' then I should be able to figure out what it was and how to get home ok.

Maybe next time you take out another group on a trip clarky ill tag along and you can show me how its done.
    Thanks for the replies guys

I'd second that. I've never broken anything off-road!

I've seen pleny happen and it has usually been through too much right foot at the wrong time.

On my first attempt at trying to fit that 4.7:1 Maxi Drive in my stage one, I found both front half shaft in perfect condition. I found that I couldn't fit the locker so put it all back together.

Went to Lancruiser park, tried the hard stuff, got home and then pulled it all apart to put in the modified Maxi locker and found one of my half shafts had a 10deg twist in the spline on the diff side .... Quite possibly too much right foot on some of those extreme tracks... It now has Maxi front axles now

I don't know chapter & verse but I know that differences exist.

The basic differences are usually with the number of splines, on top of that, there are some where the flanges & axles are a 1 piece unit (typically fitted to the Disco). Then there are the HD version of the axles - IIRC, available as an option on the Salisbury & some slight differences over the years in the front CV joints.

I remember one time when my mates rear axle went "BANG' trying to get up over this rock on a track between Lithgow and Bathurst.I pulled him out (slowly)to the main drag, and he putted on home with a very pronounced kink when going around r/h/corners.
Cant remember how much it cost him tho.
    Cheers
