D2 V8 slipped liner

At what stage would you see a slipped liner cause problems and what would they be?

Mate,

I had a similar problem with the XJ6 Jaguar. The liner slipped because the block was cracked between the two centre cylinders.
The car did not normally overheat until a hot day, then it boiled!

I had the engine rebuilt with capped liners, which ended slippage and cracked block syndrome, as the head sits neatly on the liners.

If I was in your situation, I'd fit the 4.6 motor :D
More guts and probably less fuel. If you refit LPG, go vapour injection, or it may all hapen again.

BTW, a good low km 3.9 V8 can be bought for under 2 grand and that IS the cheapest option. Even if you take the heads off and check it out before fitting.
Gaskets are cheap :D

Before you get too excited, I had same thing in my D2, see previous posts abhout his 12 m ago. Happened 3 times. Finally got to cause of the problem, which was the fact that the lpg conversion guys used plain old heater hose when re routing the poositive crancaske ventilation to the air box. As a result as the engine warmed the hose kinked and pressure built up at the top of the motor causing valley cover to be under pressure, either time or a small backfire will blow it out. A simple fix of a HSE rangie plastic piece that exits the left rocker cover and some hose to the air filter box that wont collapse when hot has solved the problem, I have had no dramas since (almost 10k km).
