    melt down

Have a 97 tdi on recent trip towing camper trailer the hose from turbo to intercooler pipe split.Drove approx 100klms util able to fix,in that time things must have got pretty hot around tubo or exhaust as the hard plastic air pipe started to melt ie molted plastic dropped onto intercooler pipe.Question would the split pipe cause this, the temp gauge rose a fraction but nowherehthe red.

I can't see why... the intercooler just cools the air after it's been through the turbo on the way to the engine. I can't see why it would have any effect on engine or turbo temps?

    The air from the turbo...

... has just been in the red hot turbines, that's why its off to the intercooler before use. So my guess would be a split hose would be blowing "heat gun" temperature air onto anything nearby! Maybe some radiator hose bandage would have helped? Or hose clamping a bit of tin or rubber over the split.
