    Which spring on which corner?

    Hi guys,

I have a 2nd hand set of 2" lifted springs. They are all different heights. They are pedders brand i think (please, no comments about brands of springs, they are a cheap set for the moment ). Two are much higher than the other two, the 2nd highest of the taller ones is labelled "7475 R/H" so thats obviously a right hand side one, but front or rear?

Do the similar heights go on an axle (this seems logical), or a side?

I would assume taller pair on the front (cos of engine weight), tallest on the left (going by the label mentioned above), and shorter pair on the rear again with tallest on the left...

Its not going to be easy fitting them myself, so i'd like to get it right first time. I will be doing a before/after measure to check.

Any ideas (except for "pedders is...") greatly appriciated. Thanks in advance.

    Hey Bulldog,

From my experience, the taller pair go on the back. Then within each pair one spring should have one slightly taller, this is the drivers side spring to balance out the weight of the driver. I'm sure others will correct me if i'm wrong

    Cheers Guy

edit: It will also be dependant on how much they've sagged??

Nah the longer springs go on the drivers side. They are usually 10-15mm taller I think.

Have you checked the pedders website? They may have details of where they fit if you have the codes...

Yes, they are 10-15mm taller. Pedders website has basic advertising only.

Angus, do you think the longer pair go on the front or the back?

Also, can they go on either way up? (ie. is there a top and a bottom to each spring?). There often seems to be more coils at the one end, i assume this is the bottom. Yes/No?

    Thanks again for the advice...

    Pete,

Longer pair on the back, Should also have thicker diameter wire than the fronts. Taller springs go to the DRIVERS side, and the progressive wound ones can go either way up, but I always fit them tight wound coils to the top.
    Hope this helps.

if you can tell us wire diameter and # of coils per spring, the stiffer ones (thicker wire/less coils) should be the rears.

The wire diameter looks similar on all 4 springs (by eye, not measured). I'll have a look tomorrow...

Don't think I'd be concerned about the brand of springs as i have been told that they made by king springs and painted red for pedders. My disco has pedders springs on (used to have pedders shocks but since have changed).I tried to find the codes to see if they were the same but they will need a good clean first as they have seen a far bit of off road action.(qld water crisis not enough water to spend too long cleaning.)ps My rear springs appear much taller than fronts but this could be due to compression from the engine weight

Otherwise with driver and passenger, it leans to the left a lot on a cambered road.

I also suspect the spring seat heights are different on each side of my chassis. But there's nothing completely flat to measure off, even on a flat garage floor the chassis flexes.
    Not quite right.

The higher spring goes on the drivers side to counteract the continuous weight of a driver.
