    Unhappy TD5 D2 coolant sludge!

G day all, wondering if anyone has come across this one?In the coolant tank there is a mirky light gray film on top of the coolant, and some type of sludge build up under the cap.The system has been recently flushed but,the very worrying problem comes back! The vehicle has never run hot,any ideas?

Mine did that when the oil cooler failed. When hot it would let engine oil into the coolant but not coolant into the oil. When cold the cooler is bypassed so it doesn't happen. To buy genuine it's about $1100 so don't just accept this as the cause. If they can't check it easily for you then you have to remove the assembly and physically look it over. The gasket is quite cheap but it is a sod to remove.

    Dont say H-e-a-d g-a-s-k-e-t

    While it's in earshot!

But I rekon if it was that youd also get ur cooling system over-pressurising!

I will probably sound prudish, but do as you propose and you will swear a person and his mates off LRs forever.

I have a D1 which I'll probably, be selling shortly, but whoever buys it will know as much as I do about its strengths & faults.

doesnt have to be the head..

if your oil cooler springs a fitting or splits all the coolant winds up in the sump via the cooler...

If youve run it while its out of coolant tho.....
