    Disco TD5 starter motor

    Hi Guys

My 2000 TD5 disco has decided that it does not always want to start. I suspect that it is the starter motor or the starter Solonoid it usually goes second time I key it but yesterday it took a few goes. The battery is only 6mth old. Could anyone advise me if replacing the starter is straight forward as in disconnect the battery disconnect the wiring off the starter and then unbolt it and replace with the new one or are there any trick, pitfalls etc. or could be something else as the starter works perfectly when it does engage.

    Thanks

    Ken

Recently had the same problem, all that was needed was to tension up the main battery cable to the starter motor (at the starter motor end). I replaced the sprung washer and all is good, and has been so for months. Also check your battery terminals.

    Hope yours is this easy.

    Regards

    Andrew

    (P.S. disconnect the battery first................)

    also can be brushes

All mine needed was to be taken apart and ther brushes freed up. Especially if the little drain has come off the breather on the brush cover.

    TD5 Starter

    Thanks Guys
I will do some checks before I jump in and buy a new starter. I would still be interested in how to fit the starter in case it does come back to that.

If you do much off road work try getting under there and giving the start and bit of a whack! Sometime they can get a bit clogged with mud and grime etc. My brother in law got about another 6 months out of his. It eventually packed up though.

    Swaybar disconnect

Hey Angus thanks for the reply I was wondering about the type of swaybar disconnects you have on your D2 and where you got them.

I got mine (you only need one) from a guy on the d2au yahoo forum. He did a group order from www.slickrockfabrication.com

They come in pairs but you only need one to slacken the bar. If you were going to order some I would just post on here and someone will take the other off your hands. They are out of stock at the moment though.

You can get Jeep ones and modify them apparently, but these ones are made for the D2. Really easy to install and easy to take off. And it does help.

    Hi Mate
Mine did this after the fuel pressure reg was leaking.
It was the trigger wire that didnt like the deisel and dust that drips upon it.
Get under and unplug/plug the trigger lead.
Its above the front propshaft,if there is diesel over it check your reg, common failure on the TD5.
