Here we go again - everyone's obsessed with capacity!

I can't wait for the day when we see 2 tonne cars powered by a 1.4l 4cyl vegetable-oil engine which puts out 180kW

A new Ford Ranger diesel ute passed me on a steep hill this morning - sailed past everyone. Not a bad looking truck from the outside either.

One gave my VY Commodore (Company Car) a decent run for it's money from a set of lights....very impressive but highly immature & irresponsible - (bit like our paddock bashing regional coppers )

I mean how dare he blatantly display acceleration from a 4WD and a diesel at that ...next thing they'll be putting diesel engines into V8 Supercars

I just did a little research on the 3 litre Duratorque.
If you are talking of the 3 litre in australia, it seems to be a Mazda engine.
Australian Ford utes are Mazdas built in Thailand.
This 2007 Mazda range is not all-new, unlike HiLux, Navara and Triton rivals. Rather the BT-50 is a big revamp of the B-Series range, using the same chassis and reworked body.
All new this time around are engines, transmissions and styling which is good and not-so-good.
The good includes the 3-litre turbo diesel engine, producing 115kW and 380Nm of torque from a low 1800rpm. Steering, ride and handling are better. Payloads are up. And the reworked cabin is brighter.
I am unsure of the origins of the 3 litre diesel but saw a UK reference to "twin overhead cams" so its not a300Tdi.
I believe the engine is a development of a Mazda 2.5 diesel, which in NA form and turbo form has been around for a while.
But then I may be wrong.
    Regards Philip A

There is a thread somewhere where Jase and I were talking about it a while back.

It was the previous Ranger that had the 2.8 inter motor in it.

You could do a conversion easy enough but it would be all custom.
As I said before Phillip, it has nothing in common with the 300 TDI other than it's diesel and it's turbo'd.

I had a feeling it was a Mazda engine but I wasnt sure so I didnt post it but Ford/Mazda utes in that range are pretty much 1 and the same even over here with a few body mods and badging changes as well as a few interior differences so Im not surprised they have stuck with the Mazda drivetrain.

I dont think that the Ranger in Mexico or where ever it was that Jase was getting the 2.8's from would be the same as over here but anything is possible I suppose.
