FWIW, Murray Sanderson, Jag/Rovers Spares, Kelvin grove (who I buy parst from) told me to run the Disco V8 on semi synthetic Valveline.
I have no idea if that is what you are talking about as I have not done enough Km for an oil change as yet.

Sorry, but 5W oil is what is recommended for the TD5 and is all I have been using and all the dealer should use. Many types of 10W oil is in fact too heavy for most TD5 applications. As said some 10w oils can be thinner, but you would need to know your oils. Using an incorrect recommended oil may void your warranty and if you are out of warranty worse.Quote:

It sounds like a top oil and if thats your best source /available choice (and if MR Auto, redcliffe are using it then go with it.) This particular thread has not mentioned specifications and focused on viscosity. 5-40w is the manufacturers recommendation and rightly so as it will suit the extremes of European winters with greater than > -30c at times. You can go to a supermarket and purchase an oil that meets this viscosity but does not meet the specificatoins to meet the manufacturers requirements, if I remember correctly Td5 is ACEA B1.
This is an old spec. and has been IMPROVED on by all the funny additives used these days ( why WE no longer put additives in our chosen expensive oil). Synthetics will always beat the manufacturers requirements due to their additives. I use PM Lubricants, 15-40w(synthetic)and spec. to ACEA E5, used by fleet trucks and agricultural/ heavy industry to protect their VERY expensive machinery, not generally available retail, but you can source this through their web site. It would be nice to have this discussion again after our Landys have done >200,000K !!

I spoke to PM Oils and was very impressed. I am purchasing 3 x 5 litre packs of the PM 421 Synthetic Eviro Turbolife 15W-40 oil plus the PM 800 Fuel System Conditioner. I am told it is Aussie made for Aussie conditions and that I will definitely notice the difference using it against other oils. We will see.Quote:

Freight from Brisbane to Karratha for it is $39. Oil is $51-15 for 5 litres and they GAURANTEE it in the TD5.:MileStone:
If it does not work out...and "BANG" then I will have an excuse for a 2.8 l stroker :angel: but I very much doubt it.

There is none on their website.
As I said further up, any 'synthetic' oil (and that's a pretty loose term these days) that meets the relevant ACEA spec and at least API CF spec will be ok.

higher than 2.9 mPa.s. These oils will increase the DPF and TWC life and provide fuel economy benefit.

stability. It is recommended for highly rated diesel engines meeting Euro 1, Euro 2, Euro 3 and Euro 4 emission
requirements and running under very severe conditions, e.g. significantly extended oil drain intervals according to the
manufacturer’s recommendations. It is suitable for engines without particulate filters, and for some EGR engines and
some engines fitted with SCR NOx reduction systems. However, recommendations may differ between engine
manufacturers so Driver Manuals and/or Dealers shall be consulted if in doubt.
E6 Stable, stay-in-grade oil providing excellent control of piston cleanliness, wear, soot handling and lubricant
stability. It is recommended for highly rated diesel engines meeting Euro 1, Euro 2, Euro 3 and Euro 4 emission
requirements and running under very severe conditions, e.g. significantly extended oil drain intervals according to the

designed for use in combination with low sulphur diesel fuel (max 50 ppm). However, recommendations may differ

E7 Stable, stay-in-grade oil providing effective control with respect to piston cleanliness and bore polishing. It further
provides excellent wear and turbocharger deposit control, soot handling and lubricant stability. It is recommended for
highly rated diesel engines meeting Euro 1, Euro 2, Euro 3 and Euro 4 emission requirements and running under severe
conditions, e.g. extended oil drain intervals according to the manufacturer’s recommendations. It is suitable for engines
without particulate filters, and for most EGR engines and most engines fitted with SCR NOx reduction systems. However,
recommendations may differ between engine manufacturers so Driver Manuals and/or Dealers shall be consulted if in
doubt.
A 20 litre drum costs a bomb to freight to Karratha. 3 x 5 litre packs will do two oil changes plus the PM800 fits in the same box after one pack is removed.
Courier freight to me then is only $39 making the exercise cost effective. The testimonials from the people that use it sold me on it. If I get the extra fuel economy as well from the PM800 and the oil I will be very happy.
Deisel hit $1.61 a litre here in Karratha. :o

I dont know the detailed specs you have quoted for other oils on this thread but an email or p/call to PM Lubricants,(Steve Kelly) is the owner, took over from his father who started the business quite some time ago. Their oils are used in racing also and last time I was at the drags the guys who were using it swore by the products. I have only recently started using thier oil as i had drums of Castrol Magnatec Synthetic to use up but I "felt" the Disco ran smoother and definitely (as this could be measured) improved fuel consumption 5-10%.
