axle end dustcaps - retention problem

    Hi all,

    advice please

The most recent axle dustcaps I obtained do not seem to want to stay in place (have lost a few).

Retention methods tried have been mainly seating in place with various sealants - all to no avail...

    Anyone else have this experience?

......and if so, please let me know what was your successful fix

for plastic ones that are very hard plastic, heat them first in very hot water to soften them before fitting, this stops them splitting and falling off later. for metal ones use a nail punch on a few spots around the base of the flange of the cap and fit with RTV, they will be hammer tight.........

I have rubber ones on my Disco1. They feel loose but do not fall off and still keep the oil in.

Clean spotless with thinners and allow to dry. The apply a thin bead of good silicone around the drive flange and install the rubber end cap.

Do not drive for curing period. So do o'night.

Works so far and they're the same ones it left the factory with over 10 years ago.

Maybe you got some replica parts from china, no joke a lot of non genuine parts are manufactured in china, some of them smell and fit horribly.

I lost one on the front and replaced it with a genuine Land Rover one, which split after 2 days. As did the next one.

Solution : The County caps are a little larger, don't split and don't seem to come off.
