    Here is an interesting comparison of the Rover 3.54 pinion to the Rover 4.11pinion. You'll notice how much smaller the 4.11 pinion gear is in comparison to the 3.54, and this is what concentrates the loading. I don't have a pic of a 4.7, but the size of the pinion gear is reduced even further.

    But the joys of aftermarket stuff is, they've marginly improved on Rover's excellent *cough* metalurgy *cough* and even though they look smaller, they're generally stronger, but when comparing rover to rover, they're just plain weaker
