Defender Diff Ratio & Locker Qs

    Just some quick Qs.

What are the diff ratios of 300Tdi Defenders?

I thought they were 4.7:1, but I got some info from ARB today on Lockers and they advertise the RD20 Locker which is for a 3.54:1 ratio Salisbury Diff. I thought 3.54:1 was a RR ratio (and hence not for a salisbury).

A note on the info sheet says that the RD32 unit is for 4.7:1 diffs.

I've already got ARB Lockers, but they came with the car, so I'm not sure what model I have. Perhaps someone with a locked 300Tdi can tell me what model lockers they have.

MinniTheMoocha is looking at a 2nd hand RD32 and isn't sure if it would fit his '98 Defender, I'm posting these Qs for him as he's not currently near his computer.

Thanks in advance for your answers.

Defenders have 3.54 diffs same as Disco and Rangie - only difference is in the transfer box ratio

Thanks for that clarification. I wouldn't call the 4.7 Salisbuty in my SIII weak though.

Yes it is, much weaker than a 3.54:1 crown wheel and pinion

LRH has answered your question spot on

You are correct in saying that a Salisbury diff is not weak, they are awsome, But in comparison the 4.7 crown wheel and pinion are much weaker than 3.5's, hence if I fitted 4.7 in my Disco diffs with lockers and 35's they would not take the punishment. If you compare the two pinions on the bench the 4.7's are so much smaller !

    Cheers

There's an advert in the Melbourne Trading Post for :

    ARB Rear Air Locker 4.7:1
    ARB Front Air Locker (matching)
    ARB 12V Compressor
    24V Compressor
ARB Fitting Kit (wiring, tubing, relays...)
USA Made Rear Locker (not sure of brand)

    $1,800 ono

Looks like Minnithemoocha will have to wait for 3.54 ratios.
