I need some help fellas. I have bought a new electrical distributor for my 2A and have followed the instructions for fitting (primative as they are... and in broken english). The thing wont fire.
What do i do with te resistor setup for the coil ? Do I give it the flick? The instructions show no detail with regard to coil types and show only the +'ve and -'ve leads from the dizzy going to the coil. I am lost for the rest of the leads.
My previous leads went thru a relay to a resistor then the coil with one wire going to the dizzy.
It sounds like you have the all-in-one series dist - Find yourself a coil from a later vehicle with electronic dist ( ie a VC commodore, Chrysler Valiant with HEI etc - usually it has a connection like a spark plug instead of a socket). Generally you feed ignition on power direct to the new distributor , red & black - then a third wire goes from the base of the dist to (again generally) the pos side of the new coil and the neg side is earthed. The HEI coil doesn't need a resistor, and the electronics provide the AC signal on that third wire which the coil amplifies and sends back to the top of the distributor via the HT lead.
Langy - thanks for the info. I do have a +'ve line from the starter button and one (thru the firewall) to the resistor. I have tried disconnecting all this but success may be limited by the coil that requires a resistor.
Any further help is appreciated.

That's even simpler than I thought it would be. Put both original Landrover wires back on the coil positive post ( from the starter and the resistor), making sure that during cranking you are getting feed from the starter switch - if you don't the resistor may be dropping the voltage down too low for the electronics in the dist to work with the drain of the starter motor. Then add the two wires from the dist to the coil. Leave out any noise filter just in case it's fried and shorting out.
The Distributor electronics should be grounding via the body of the dist and the engine block - and that's all there is to it, as the green wire only sends the AC signal to the coil - and there should be spark after that.
If that fails, take the dist out, rig it to a 12v supply on it's own - positive on red, negative on the metal base of the unit. Connect the red lead of a multimeter to the green wire and the black lead to negative supply - select AC voltage and turn the rotor - if the unit works it should register something. If not, it may be faulty.
ps: The instructions should have a post of their own - they are amazingly bad

Got an email back from the mob in 'England' who sold it to me. Funnily - I could make sense of what he was saying as it was in 'English'. Looks like, regardless of it being advertised as a ... plug-n-play... unit; its not really that way. Another coil required and possibly some 'new' bits for my 'new' dizzy as it has failed the test that was explained to me by langy (thanks again mate). Good run lately hey!
Problem fixed: 12.33V to Dizzy.... 0 volts from dizzy ..... Dizzy returned

Emailed me today - new unit on the way and he doesn't care too much about the faulty one. Impressed me!
