D2 Immobilizer and external radio interference
D2 Immobilizer and external radio interference.
Yesterday I parked my 2004 D2 in town and tried to lock using the key fob- Nothing
Locked with the key - OK
Forgot something
Tried to unlock with the Fob – nothing
Unlocked with the key – Alarm goes off
Locked with key to silence the alarm
Walked down to local dealer and replaced Key Fob battery
Tried again – nothing with Fob, Alarm goes off with Key.
Tried entering security code with Key – Failure.
Back to dealer (getting rather frustrated), rechecked the security code, and read their instructions very carefully.
Back to the car, and successfully entered the code. I didn’t have to wait 5 minutes as instructed in the manual.
Drove around to the dealer and tried locking again. All is now OK.
Total time about 1 hour.
The problem is obviously external radio interference that must be very localized, as I’ve often parked in about the same area.
While I was having the problem, (and making a lot of noise with the horn), several people told me they had seen others with the same problem, normally resulting in the vehicle being towed away.
Does anyone have any idea what radio signals cause this problem, and any tips on avoiding, or solving it?
What radio frequency do the fobs operate on, I was thinking of borrowing a scanner to try and identify the source, or is it likely to be a very strong “off frequency” signal?
My initial failure to enter the code correctly was either caused by the wrong procedure, or more probably, not making sure the key was returned to the mid position between key toggles.
Thanks
Greg

Did you happen to park in front of, or near a Chemist Shop?
I have read where their computer/cash register terminals can cause interference.
Search on here, as it's been covered a few times.

I've read about this in P38 rangies:
A quick Google and I knew why I've seen it - P38arover (Ron) had a hand in it.

I had a call from a customer at 6:15 pm last Friday, he was parked at the Museum carpark and couldn't disarm the D1 at all. We had to move the vehicle away from the museum 25 metres (after disconnecting the alarm sounder) and then it would work. Infra red motion detctors etc are my guess. There has also been instances where vehicles had to be towed off Mount Wellington because of radio interference fromthe broadcasting towers up there...Modern electronics, don't you love 'em.

Yep, usually caused by radio masts. The main culprit is usually mobile phone masts.

I had the same problem in 2 areas within close proximity to my house. I had to call roadside assist in one instance. We rolled the Disco back 6 metres & bingo. No problem. Later on when I scanned the area I located several unsecured wireless networks. Needless to say once I started logging on to these unsecured networks they were secured & I never had the problem again. Maybe there was a wireless network connection in the area you were in that caused microwave interference.

D2 Immobilizer and external radio interference
Hi, it's the signal given out by scanners in shops, I also have a D2 and it's happened many times, there is no fix until retailing equipment Manufacturers get together with the car industry and sort out signal codes. It's not just the D2, there's other makes involved. For future reference:
when parking and setting alarm, if it doesn't lock straight away, look around, there's probably a chemist, park elsewhere.
If you do get stuck, walk around the car at varying distances trying to unlock with remote
push car about 6-10 feet it will probably start then
go into chemist and ask for the scanners to be turned off for a minute so you can start your car

Let me guess - there was an Amcal chemist at that centre....their scanners interfere with the cars computer - the imobilisation aspect of the security system. LR know about it but wont admit it until you push them. There is a fix - to go back to D1 Mhz transponder. I pushed them out of warranty (because its got nothing to do with the age of the vehicle) and they agreed to fit a whole new receiver and key pads - $3000 worth - free. In effect they change the frequency on which the key pads run. I think before the change they were 200mhz or so from memory.
Hit them up....tell them they have done it before out of warranty for free.

EDIT - its not perfect because the D1 had the odd interference problem, but its a lot better than the D2 standard frequency

Having an After Market Immobiliser fitted & none of the LR junk, can the LR one be operated ONLY with the key or do you need the fob?
The RAA have erected signs at Mount Lofty Lookout carpark advising to do this due to the many call outs they have had due to the high concentration of RF interference at this high point.
