I was waiting for someone else to bring that up first.
30mpg from a 4BD1T in a rangie. 15mpg from a v8 in a D2. Given the D2 punches a bigger hole in the air, you could call it 1.5 times less fuel consumption in the 4BD1T. With half a million km between rebuilds (that's in the four ton trucks Isuzue put them in) you're going to be replacing the rest of the vehicle before the engine if you start with a recon or low mileage one.
Of course there's no easy auto option for the Isuzu. But with a fat torque curve gear changes aren't needed as often.
I realise it's not the perfect engine for everyone. But you'll have to prise mine from my cold dead hands.
