V8 on LPG = more economical to run (and one day reco) than TD.

...and rover V8s well kept should do the same kays with their chrome bore liners as a TD and perhaps more (its not the old comparo of naturally aspirated small truck diesels - well understressed - versus cast iron bored unbalanced petrol motors....not by a long shot. A 2.5 litre is working damn hard for its money and the hair dryer is cranking it up for a living so there wont be much in it in terms of longevity and when it comes to a full reconditioning job....whoa your talking 3-4 times the cost of a V8 at least.

    Cheers

I was waiting for someone else to bring that up first.

30mpg from a 4BD1T in a rangie. 15mpg from a v8 in a D2. Given the D2 punches a bigger hole in the air, you could call it 1.5 times less fuel consumption in the 4BD1T. With half a million km between rebuilds (that's in the four ton trucks Isuzue put them in) you're going to be replacing the rest of the vehicle before the engine if you start with a recon or low mileage one.

Of course there's no easy auto option for the Isuzu. But with a fat torque curve gear changes aren't needed as often.

I realise it's not the perfect engine for everyone. But you'll have to prise mine from my cold dead hands.

    You cant do it anyhow....

TD5 vehicle wont pass rego now, it has to comply with regs from at least 1999

Depending on how much later it is makes it tighter again.

    Which state is that?
Have they bought in the same law as some US states (engine must be newer than vehicle)?

The replacement engine has to match the emission ADR numbers on the compliance plate. In the case of a commercial vehicle like a 130 this often means that much older engines can legally be fitted and still comply with the emission ADR's.

When I looked at this for my 1985 V8 110, I was permitted to use an engine from as early as 1978.

Well a bit of an update, td5 motor & gearbox is out & the transfer
and auto are sitting in place to line up engine mount position.
The wiring is as thought taking heaps of time, but slowly working
through it. Ended up getting a new HC 4.6 short motor for the project
as I'm only going to do this once I want it to be good as possible.
It should go nice when its finely done, was supposed to be finished
this week but still lots to do [wiring]..
So if anyone wants a td5 & gearbox & chipped computor let me
    know, its all done 154ks..
