Fitted ARB bar & now trailer light comes on in Dash??

Evening Guys,

FINALLY got round to fitting my ARB bar after having had it lying in the way in the shed for 5 months (don't ask, engine headaches - which should have been sold with Dave's excellent 'butchary').

After having connected up the inicators and 'running' lights in the bar, each time I use the indicator, I get this little trialer flashing in sync with the turn signal on the dash. Is it supposed to do this??

I am sort of thinking that the car may have some kind of BUS computer system that recognises when extra turn signals are hooked up and usually this would signal a trailer......is this thought correct?

This is normal, it means the system thinks you have a trailer connected, IE bull bar lamps, as the circuit resistance is altered it flashes the trailer indicator also.

you can put lower wattage bulbs in the car ones and this should fix the job - or even LED ones

You just need to change the bullbar lights from 21w down to 10w and that solves the problem. The Disco2 senses how much load is on the indicator circuit to determine if it needs to flash the trailer warning.

Drop in some low wattage globes in the bars indicators OR fit LEDs in those lights and the trailer light wont come on (unless you attach a trailer)

Happened to me too. What they said above. lower wattage globes required.

do that to the bar and the lights and that will ensure that

a, roos that you slam the bar into dont bust your lights (tested ok when I did it at 0Ishouldbeasleep hundred yesterday morning)
b, it makes the indicator lights in the dash work as intended.
c, it should stop the lights from being busted by nufties who try to reverse bumpstop class vehicles through the barwork.

once I get the proper lights made up (when they arrive) that were ment to be in there those ones will be let go at cost price.

Dont take out those nice hi wattage bulbs matey - I had a relay inserted for each indicator and no more trailer light....sweet.
