Power chips, the real deal or just BS?

    Hi All,

Don't knowe if this has been discussed before but has anyone seen these, used one or know of anyone using these and what feedback there has been about them?

I am wondering whether this is worth piggybacking into my '93 Disco dual fuel V8i.

    Cheers, Pete'

    WOFTAM...

its essentially the same as winding out the mixture screw on a carbied engine or pulling the choke out a little

its almost but not quite in the same league as a hiclone but it does actually work and it works as the "how it works" spot on the page says it does....

heres the clincher, Its just a resistor in grey goop so you cant see it, go spend $3 at jaycar or the like buy a trim pot, some wire, crimps and DIY..

However..... (and this bit applies to if you do the DIY thing as well

since it tricks the ecu into thinking the air is cooler than it is you run richer so your economy goes to poo your cat is at risk (the one in the exhaust not 4 legged furry kind) and what happens if you actually hit cold air as opposed to normal warm air?
It will also not work if the engine starts to knock as its advancing to much as the anti knock sensor will take over and wipe a handfull of degrees of advance out and, depending on how advanced your ECU is, pull back the fuel delivery as well. Oh hang on that means that this thing aint doing squidly when that happens...

Not worth it IMHO if you want a better fuel map get one installed into the ECU by the professionals, most places that are even close to reputable will have about a dozen differnt maps for your engine depending on how you want to drive it.

    Hi Dave,

I just got up and read your post, man you can make me laugh!

Yeah, I thought that these were all that and nothing too and I found it hard to believe that it wouldn't stuff up my mileage.

How is that rebuild going? I think doing that to my motor is going to be better for it in the long run along with some high comp' pistons maybe.

Anyway, always good to hear from you on these things.

    Cheers, Pete'

Shame a 93 Disco doesn't have a catalytic convertor, any ECU controlled timing or knock sensors, its dumb fuel only ECU will just overfuel

I've been watching PhillipA and his progress with his V8

Once he gets his sorted out we will all be the wiser

    This a proper chip

I don't understand how those fleebay ripoff merchants are allowed to continue ......

I have one of Mark Adams Tornado chips in a mildly modded 3.9 litre V8 and it works a treat ...... go here.

Is not the airflow meter a form of ECU?

I know I don't have the "knock" sensor since my timing for the lpg is way more advanced than for the petrol. Not to say I can't run on unleaded but I have to be gentle on the acceleration in order for the pistons not to "ping'.

Some sort of mapping cpu would be good but I live with what I have.

Hey, story of our lives right?!

    Cheers,

ECU or Puta CONTROLLED, it has an ECU its just a little dumb

The airflow is not a form of ECU, its a device that measure and gives information back to the ECU to use as a reference

yeah but as its fittable to a multitude of vehicles I had to cover all the bases incase he wants to fit it to his new range rover sport or something along those lines....
