    Series 2/2a/3 Design shortcoming

I have spent part of the morning cleaning up my 2a to take into town to get a pink slip later in the week.

While doing this I am reminded of a problem with the design. When hosing out the cab, there is no way of draining the space between the back of the seatbox and the bulkhead. Water is trapped in here by the raised (25mm) join where the seatbox bolts to the tub (I think this only applies to lwb). There does not seem to be any easy answer except to bail/sponge out the water, which sort of defeats the purpose of having a hose out design.

.........after having created the Land Rover God stopped and considered the design.....he then created the cordless drill to drill holes in the landy so that the water would have easy egress

    G'day JDNSW

The water should be able to drain out between the fuel/breather holes, as they lead directly to ground via the top of the tank if not Drill & 1/4 inch bit, holes for the drilling of

I have carefully blocked all these holes to restrict the ingress of dust - the fuel fillers and breathers are sealed by a foam gasket about an inch thick on the top of the tank (Same round the dipsticks - in this case a section of the foam insulation made for water pipes is ideal). Having stopped (most of) the dust coming in I am not about to put holes back!

What Rob said. A couple of 5/8" holes in it & away you go. Fit a couple of rubber plugs if dust bothers you.

Also did the same in the load space adjacent to the bulkhead as the unladen slope will hold the water forward.

Move rubber mat, hose out, let drain, replace rubber mat over the holes again until next time.

I never would have picked you for being the LandRover antithesis.
    Cheers

You obviously don't have dust like there is on some of the roads round here! It'll get in somehow anyway (why do you think I had to hose it out?), but I do my best to minimise it.
