    Underseat tanks into a wagon?

I gather that the under-seat tanks were an option in Series 2/2a wagons - I'm unsure about Series III. Apparently had to be ordered at the time of manufacture.

I'm looking at fitting some additional tanks to my Stage 1. While I will have a ute back as an option, does anyone know how the tanks, or more particularly the fillers, were located in factory-fitted tanks?

And if no-one knows that one, what is the story with the Perentie wagon tanks? Where do the filler pipes run?

If anyone has a proven solution, please let me know. Unproven ideas - please only advise if you have a CAD drawing to accompany

    Thanks!

I had a sheet metal shop (a well known Airline workshop) make an under seat tank for my Stage 1 to a model I mocked up in ply wood. As you know Steve, the battery is under drivers seat, so I remodeled the under seat box on passenger side and fitted 2 batteries under there, and then fitted the fuel tank under drivers seat, with the filler exiting the side of the seat box. Tank size was 55 litres. Was all plumbed with an electric changeover switch which directed fuel return to tank in use. It took a number of weekends but worked like a charm.

The bloke who bought the car used to frequent here, but I haven't come across him for a while.

I had a series tank (2 door) at the time, but it all looked too difficult to make this fit, as the outriggers are different on a wagon.

Of course this was 20 years ago so no pics.

Might be worth looking at the Series 2a/3 Optional Equipment Parts catalogue RTC9842CE - several auxilliary tanks listed there although none seem to be specifically for the Stage 1 at a quick glance.

The Stage 1 has the battery under the driver's seat so would need modifications. Any wagon fuel tank should be possible. How would I locate an optional equipment catalogue? Please?

And Humpty, why not go under the passenger seat? What's under there?

This is the left side tank I just removed from my S3 109 Panelvan.

Front and rear views, the filler is in the mirror position and identical to the original on the right, this tank delivers to the main tank via a pump on the rear bulkhead. The rear end bolts to the lip on the middle or rear outrigger, (there should be 3 bolt holes there) the front to an angle bracket. It sits far enough back to leave room for an Auxiliary battery in front of it below the floor.

It just so happens this tank is now "surplus to requirements".
See my "S3 Change" thread in Projects, to understand.
It's a genuine Landy tank with gauge sender unit and all.

Humpty....... I put it under the drivers seat simply because it put both fillers on one side, and whichever side you use, if you are going to fit a second battery, one of the under seat boxes needs to be modified.

I have a Stage1 V8 wagon down the back yard.
It has a drivers side underseat reserve fueltank.
Its custom made, there is a filler above the front RH wheel in the top of the gaurd.
Its forsale as I will never use it,but the freight between me and you will kill the deal I feel.

    A.......
Mine came from Four Wheel Drives in Melbourne, and they are probably available from most other specialists, and possibly even from some dealers.

Or you could look on line - this came up as the first item on a google search :- Land Rover Series 2A, 3, 109 V8 Optional Equipment Parts Catalogue (1855202875)

The Army 110s ( Perentie) had the 65 litre tank under the drivers seat with a filler hose under the rear passenger floor and up behind the rear right side door. I don't have pics but might be some on REMLR.

I have seen fillers on 110 wagons with under driver seat tanks go forward to the front mudguard, near where the air intake on a 300 TDi goes, and going rear to a Y shaped filler at the normal tank cap.

I have one just like it already Shorty943, but thanks very much for the offer.

There seems to be a couple of difficulties with fitting it: The space under a wagon seat is a little shorter (due to not having the "behind the seats" bit) and the chassis outrigger is a little different. Plus the filler neck would sit in the footwell for the rear seat. I hadn't checked these things before getting the tank

I can't use the longer tanks due to the massive side steps attaching to the chassis just behind the forward outrigger but thought the smaller ones would suit - no such luck it seems. I had also thought I could use a Ute back in place of the wagon body - but this looks like more trouble than I thought at first due to the differences in the outriggers and body attachments.
