    Hazard light drive me insane

My 98 Disco is having an annoying problem. When driving on rough roads over 60Km the hazard lights come on and there is no way to cancel them. I have to stop, reset the alarm and start again
I have the idea that the problem can be with a faulty movement sensor in the alarm.
Is there any member who knows how to cancel this sensor or know where it is in the car so an electrician does not charge me an arm and a leg ?

    Cheers

You're correct about the sensor - it is in the alarm unit, above the passengers left foot. As for a fix - another alarm unit might be the answer. It should be this one: (Don't take any notice of the link's name)

Wabco C type ABS (p38 early)

and it will be a simple unplug/replug to install. The drawback is that somebody with a diagnostic PC is needed to synchronize the alarm remotes you have ( there are other threads about that topic)

or, if you are electronically minded - take it apart and either resolder the connections or remove the sensor altogether

Sounds easier to just pull the fuse when you're off road.... My Disco used to do the same thing, now I have a Defender and the problems gone away!

You could always wire in a switch in-line that just disables the hazard lights.

It would be easier if we swap Landy's
Thanks for the tip, I like lazy and practical fixes.

I would have thought your problem is caused by a faulty inertia switch and not the alarm. Its located near the washer bottle and is supposed to activate indicators and cut the fuel pump off if you have an accident. You press it to reset it. If it plays up it you get problems on rough roads. I'm not sure if it cuts the fuel pump in a tdi - maybe that's why you can keep on driving. Its not expensive to replace and just plugs in.

I don't think its the alarm because you would need to have it armed for it to go off. And wouldn't the horn be sounding at the same time as the hazard lights? The motion sensor in the disco is a ultrasonic sensor that detects motion inside the car not motion of the car.

I had the same problem in my old RR Classic. It is the inertia switch and it usually came on when I first hit a seriously corrugated road.

Turning the ignition on and off twice clears it.

my 03 d2 had a similar problem caused by inertia switch, I think most of the problem was caused by a thick cable (running to the rear for a 12v outlet panel fitted to my car) running close to the inertia switch knocking the switch when I drove over corrugations or large bumps
