2 canister thingies on lefthand passenger side?

Well I've found out where all my aircon gas has been going, there is a split in the pipe that comes in through the firewall on the front passenger side. However there are two canister looking type things in front of that pipe that I'll need to remove in order to get the pipe undone and out.

The canisters look like either fans or probably filters of some sort but my Haynes manual doesn't tell me what they are which means it also doesn't tell me how to remove them.

Anyone know what they are and how I go about getting them out?

    '93 Disco by the way.

    Cheers, Pete

    Here it is,

The pipe in question is the larger of the two pipes in the centre of the pic where it is a little foggy.(smudge on the lens I think).

Did that pic help anyone identify what these cannisters are?

    Pete,

Yup, Dave is right, these are the blower motor housings. Not easy to get out, as they are part of the evap housing AFAIR. That evaporator hose is a pain to get out, and on the early disco they are the same as the RRC.
    Good luck.

Hi Guys, Yeah, OK, full dash removal job. I've done it about 4 times before so I now drive around with the bare minimum of bolts/screws holding it in anyway.

Since I'm pulling it out I might as well replace my heater/blower box unit (I have a spare that cost me $45 from a wrecked '93), while I'm at it since I am using a core that came from a ford (but happens to just fit in the same space. Just been putting it off since that dash job always sucks

Hey, just another thought. Since the pipe coming in is the low pressure side(40psi from memory I think), instead of getting the rigid pipe replacement, could I not use a braided hose type replacement that is of the same pressure not to mention about 1/5 the cost?

    Cheers, Pete'

i would tend to think that if it was possible to cut costs.....the manufacturer would have already done that......

me personally.......i would use what was there originally in this situation......
rubber will perish eventually.....or chafe where it passes through the firewall......
not to mention what the dust inside the braiding will do as it flexes.......
    just my thoughts......

you can but the stuff to deal with the aircon juice aint cheap.

a prefab pipe is cheaper if your doing on an assembly line.

OK, well I'm sure I can find an original out there somewhere and if not, there is a pro' aluminium welder around here that has done other engine work for me that can repair the crack in this one for about $70.
