    ECU Chips

I'm finally considering talking to the gents at MR about re-chipping the fender.
To date I've been a bit of a fraidy cat worring that the increased power/torque may bring some other bit in the drive train undone.

Am I worrying unduly?? For all of you who have re-chipped, has anyone experienced any dramas? How many kays travelled since chipping?
Any other comments gratefully received. I'm currently running Maxi Drive rear axles and hub splines.

    Cheers

I have 160,000ks on the Disco, 90,000ks chipped and have towed a 1.3t camper for those Ks, only had the normal TD5 probs, oil in the loom, leaking fuel reg, warped manifold.

If you have the money get the bigger intercooler as well, it helps drop EGR temps for better preformance and cooler running.

That's one of my reasons for skirting the issue to date. I've heard it can be attributed to higher exhaust temps ... as a direct result of re-chipping ..

just going of the paper side of the work you can add about an additional 30% of power to the td5 before you will put the tx at significant risk... But thats assuming your box and driveline hasnt got additional wear, the weakest part in the driveline is the front diff/halfshafts, if your running maxi drive stuff or the ashcroft stuff allround IMHO your center diff is next in line.

If youve already got slop in the gearbox output (pull the pto casing and check the output shaft to the top gear on the tcase for movement/wear) It might be worth repairing that before the upgrade.

Yep .. these are among my concerns. As I understand it the R380 is good for 380Nm of torque, so even 25% increase and you're pushing the wire.

Maybe just get the intercooler then, you'll get as much with this by itself as you would with a chip.

umm sorry no you wont you might pick up 3-4% as the old ecu will still only fuel to its design limits but it will get there quicker and more reliabley with a bigger intercooler.
