    Talking *** Disco V8 Oil Filters ***

me again,i have just been down to super crap auto and was looking at oil filters among other things and noticed the Z9 has the same thread size and seal diameters as the Z89A which is specced for the V8 Disco, apart from being a larger physical size, does anyone know why i can't use this oil filter? as they are less than half price of the Z89A.....go figure??

it will fit as far as thread goes,

    BUT!!!!!

on full articulation you risk it being ripped off that's why is is not specced.

So only use the Z89, Valvoline make an equivalant and it's cheaper than the Ryco.

Just as an aside,The Ryco catalogue in the mid '90's specified a filter for the 300TDI THAT WAS TOO LONG. There were several waranty claims for engine failures due to this, we had to do one where I worked. When articulating the front diff hit and damaged the filter which then pumped all the oil out within a few seconds. We rebuilt the whole engine. They paid for everything, even transporting the vehicle from the Pilbara to Albany, and accomodation and transport for the owner and his entire family. Not bad I thought.

IIRC, the early RR classics used a long filter. I used to use a Z9 in mine and never had it hit, even at full artic.

Now I use genuine ERR3340 - same price as Ryco Z89A (which I used to use on my Hillman Hunter). It took me a long time to realise oil and filters are cheaper than engines - although I'm not sure if I should change to synthetic on the new engine after it is run in.

The ERR3340 (Z89A) is used on the V8s and the Tdi engines.

Didn't the earlier non serpentine belt motors have the filter on a different angle, to the side?.The serpentine ones have the filter facing to wards the front
