HI the plastic sheet is supposedd to deflect any water that gets down between the window rubbers away fom the trims and down into the bottom of the door so it can escape out the drain holes any plastic will do held on with masking tape

G'day all,
How important is the plastic inside the door trim?
I'm in the process of removing the door trim off my '94 300tdi Defender, giving the inside a quick hose our with the air-gun and liberally coating everything in sight with Lanolin spray.
In a couple of days time when I go to put the door trim back - how important is the plastic sheet?
It's just that my drivers door didn't have oneso I'm wondering if they're necessary at all, or what their funciton is for that matter.
Are they a lame attempt at sound proofing? Are they an even lamer attempt at stopping dust getting into the door?
Advice please![]()

Mine obviously doesn't have one, on account that the bottom of my door trim is now the flap of leather with none of the wood backing it's supposed to have!I dont mind, but if you do mind such a situation, I suggest you get a large black bin-liner, cut it to size and tape it on!
Thanks for the replies
In that case I'll use some large white bin liners I've got laying around, I don't particularly want anything else in her that would attract / hold heat.
I'll also rip off the horrible useless old lumps of glue and use some good solid gaffer tape to hold my construction in place.
Thanks again![]()
Id suggest a tape with a bit less tack than gaffer and Ive put them on previously with a uhu glue stick peels off easier next time round and soapy water gets rid of the residue

If you think you're in front on the deal, pay it forwards.
The Plastic liner also stops the draft from coming through holes in the trim as well as stopping the water rotting the trim away.
We used to stick them back on with spray glue when I was panel beating, as in spray on the plastic, not on the door. Probably a bit pricey to buy just for the 1 door though.
I use the black plastic that's sold in hardware stores to go under concrete or gravel as a barrier to plant growth. Nice and thick and cheap.
