twin turbo 4 litre rover v8.

I finally got a spare motor for my defender buggy so i can play around with some hairdriers. It started when my old man turned up with a 2004 disco which had an under bonnet fire, with minor damage to the engine. The bosch intake manifold is ok but the injectors are toast, as is the coil pack. The bottom end should be strong enough. This will be a tiny budget build, and only being in a race car, it doesn't have to be ecconomical. I'm planning on using some turbo's off some jap 2 litre junk, which are cheap, spool up quick, and aren't watercooled (less to go wrong). No intercoolers. I'll use 2 head gaskets on each side, to lower the compression (any opinions on this?). The origional throttle body was toast, but the front half of the manifold unbolts, exposing the intake runners on each side, prefect for a twin throttle body setup. Any reccomendations on what injectors, what computer, and what size throttle bodys? Is it worth scorcing another coil pack and running it without a dizzy for waterproofing?

this rain is annoying, i cant drive the buggy, as it takes 2 hours to clean again, so i might as well make it quicker.

Can we assume from your enthusiastic use of apostrophes your wallet is about to get lighter?

Andy just wondering where and when do you race your buggy, I wouldn't mind a look.

As the basic lump is the old Buick/Rover V8 from the 60s, there are all sorts of mods you can do. An easy/cheap option would possibly be to fit a new inlet manifold with a big Holly and NOS but if you want to go down the blower route, have you considered a supercharger???

As for coil packs vs Dizzy... I haven't had a good look at the later engine but would you be able to retro-fit a dizzy? (you know what... I'm not even sure if it has one fitted or not!!??!!) Would you need another cam? I think you'd have just as many issues waterproofing the coil packs as you would the dizzy.

i dont have any competitions coming up for ages, mabe easter, but that hasn't been announced yet.

The biggest advantage of coil packs is that they re at the rear of the motor tucked behind the inlet manifold. unless you drown your engine, you don't have problems with water. if i have to, i will retrofit a dizzy from a 3.9, along with the front cover plate and cam etc.

I've considered a blower, but i have read the manifold is tricky to design, and people often bugger it up. It will have nos aswell, i have already got a kit, i just need to fill the bottle.

the coil packs are easier to waterproof than the dizzy...

as for the gasket you should be able to buy a single thicker gasket from someone like monotorque gaskets. IMHO one sealing surface is better than the 2 youd have with dual gaskets.
