URGENT Help - 300 Tdi parts

    Hi there guys/gals,

We are head long into a timing belt replacement and have found the power steering pully bearing is shot.

Had a spare bearing but could not press it out as the pulley is plastic! My 300Tdi has a metal pulley and I easily replaced it.

Does anyone have a spare new pulley? Or an old one that we can press the bearing into?

Location is important - Melbourne eastern suburbs, currently in Burwood and could collect in a pinch.

Please call 0409 77 46 43 if you are able to help.

    Thanks

    John

Hi John, Do you mean the main belt tensioner pulley? Or one of the A/C belt pulleys? Assuming you are working on a 300Tdi?

Pardon my asking - are you actually referring to the tensioner assembly? If so VR commodore will fit.

    Pulley

The pulley is mounted on the timing cover and does not move/tension the belt.

It is 2" in diameter and is for the surpentine belt.

    Sorry for the confusion.

On a 300Tdi, the only one mounted on the timing cover apart from the main large diameter on is the idler for the A/C. You can use a V6 VR, VS or VT commy grooved idler . They have a 6203 bearing in them. Take the pulley with you to supercheap or ripco and they will soon be able to match one up. The commy ones are a larger diameter but fit. It just means the belt adjuster is further round to tension the belt.

About $40 to $50 as far as I remember.

    Thanks Justin

You are spot on. It is the A/C idler pulley.

I had a bum steer from the other leading hand...Michael2!!!!

Thanks also to Langy for calling to clear this up.

    Best regards

Thanks guys, sorry about the confusion, the p/s pump pulley was off as I looked at the cover and I thought that was it. I suppose I could have double checked on one of the two other Defenders parked next to it (where's the red face emoticon when I need it?).

We were prepared for what we expected from experience (1 job) to be a metal pulley - we had a new bearing to fit. But we found a plastic one!!

Anyway the good news is that BrendanB, who did the Simpson trip with me, but later had to sell his 200Tdi ute, is now back in the fold with a newly aquired 300Tdi Wagon. And now that his timing belt isn't a hair breadth from disaster we can plan another trip.

Thanks to Langy for the prompt phone call that cleared our concerns.

Thanks Justin for the cross reference to the Holden part, that should make replacing it over the holiday period a lot easier.

    Thanks to all who helped

Thanks to all that assisted with the 300tdi timing belt replacement. Special thanks to Minniethmoocha and Michael2.
I went to get a Commodore idler pulley as a replacement as all Landy shops are closed over christmas. The commodore has two types. One is a 88mm OD and the other is 76mm OD both have a 17mm ID. I am not near my 300tdi at the moment and would like to pick one up today. Does anyone have the OD measurement of the aircon idler. And also the number of ribs or grooves. (the Commodore ones are 6 rib/5 groove).

    Thanks

To my knowledge the commodore one is not the one you need for the AC
The AC is a fixed pully with a 6203 bearing in it (i think). the Tensioner is the same as the commodore one and that is for the main Serpentine belt.
