Thread: Sagging Roof Lining

I had mine replaced using grey felt. It's a reasonably straight forward job. You could do it yourself if you can spray contact adhesive. Otherwise you could contact the upholsterer that did mine on 04 1209 3883. He will give you a quote over the phone & come out to do the job.
I would suggest, you remove & refit the hood lining unit yourself, and just get him to replace the covering. While the lining is out, you can check other things that may need attention. Alpine windows etc. If you catch these early enough, they are easy fixed.
Another thing, the felt is not as stretchy as the original fabric & is a bit hard to recess into the 2 recessed sections in the centre of the roof. I cut some 3mm MDF board to fit into these recesses. It flattens out the hood lining & gives it some rigidity. Look much better.

Michael, I DO have some rust in one alpine window, so this may be a great opportunity to have the rust repaired as well, I was a little concerned that repairing the rust may require welding and welding and roof lining wouldn't mix very well !

I didn't know that D2's also suffered from the roof lining sag. Bummer.

I will post some pictures (before and after) once the job is completed, though it may be a few weeks, as the holiday season is a time for relaxing ... or so i am told.

Yes seems like we all have the same problem. I've been thinking about this and the best plan (have not tried it yet) I could come up with is this:
Get some 3M Super 77 spray adhesive, then cut a 5mm hole and with a small pipe (like the one you get with W40) spray in between or just onto the roof, let it settle and rejoin the two surfaces.

I've considered that too as I just have one corner that's starting to sag.

I tried to re-glue the original lining. Maybe I was a little too heavy handed with the glue, but it soaked through the original thin covering & left a stain. I think you are only putting off the inevitable.
It's no big deal, with a little care, to pull the head lining out. Rip the covering off & glue on some felt. The glue doesn't penetrate the felt. It's is not original, but it still looks OK.

ive tried the spray adhesive and it didnt work !!!! it just soaks into the hood and soaks the linnig it would prob needs to be taken out of the truck and placed upside down so gravity can do the work but im not brave enough to take it out just incase i crease it!!! if i did that i would just die
