Umm, do you have the 300Tdi block? I know of someone who needs a replacement after a rod went through the block.
what issues would there be with dropping a 4.6 out of a range rover into a 97-98 vintage 110 or 130?

WHY????
If you want a V8 Deefa, why not just buy a County and then slot the 4.6 in that, I know of one thats already been done and It did go really well until it crapped it self about a year ago, now it sits at the back of his sons work shop awaiting the time to do something with it.
As far as the conversion goes, the only problem is that you would have to meet ADR's and EPA regs as far as if the engine is older than the car but this could be probably got around by running dedicated gas for rego.
I dont know what would be involved as far as engine mounts and matching to the gearbox etc but I dont think that stuff will be much of a problem.

Re ADRs and emissions, if you converted a V8 County from 3.5 to 4.6 litres, no one would know.![]()

I looked at this briefly when I thought I had a cheap donor engine available. Apart from the obvious things like engine mounts needing shifting and all the ancillaries from the donor engine likely being different (alternator, starter, radiator, etc), you'll need to change the bellhousing and input shaft in your R380 (Or get a Disco one and change the linkage/gearshift to a Defender one), or use an earlier gearbox from a County to mate up. Thoughts from a couple of people I asked for advice were that the transmission tunnel would probably be OK unchanged. Would probably be easier if you went the auto route, but I wanted a manual.
This was without finding all the hundreds of other things you'll forget or not consider and hit when in the middle of the conversion.
Plus, you will then probably need the car to be checked and certified depending on local regs, and will possibly kill it's resale value when you sell it despite having spent thousands doing the conversion.
If you had a cheap donor engine/gearbox with all ancillaries, or ideally a wrecked donor car so you could measure up in the engine bay, see the layout and take everything you need as and when you need it, it would be viable, but a lot of work....

just figured it'd be easier to find a 97-98 trayback D110/D130 and convert it using a wrecked rangie than to find an earlier one in good condition
Why do you want it to have a 4.6 V8, whats wrong with the diesel?
There is near to no room in a Deefa cab chassis, even at 5'10" There is not enough leg room and the seat has to be leant forward a bit to have barely enough legroom to drive it so your leaning forward all the time.
Unless your fairly short (not much over about 5') then I wouldnt recomend a single cab Deefa but each to their own.
