If the rubber diaphragm is OK (undo 4 screws on the top cover to access) check the oil in the dampers. Actually, check the damper oil first!
Need some help please, just changed a holly for the original twin stromburgs. One sucks the other does'nt sounds like it's running on four cylinders. What are the pipes on the top cover and one on the passenger side in the valley of the carbs. Any ideas please, my brother needs to drive this back to Adelaide in a few days.

Diaphram is fine has oil in dampers.
Check that there is a restrictor in the return line, the float valve isnt stuck closed and the bowl is filling.
Disconnect the linkage connecting the carbs and rev it individually on each carb to isolate the non-contributor.

im not too sure what pipes etc you are talking about.....
Can't do a pic sorry, pipe is on top of carb looking at engine from front, right carb the pipe is at the front on top, left carb at the rear.
There should be blance pipe between the 2 carbys (not essentil) there should be 2 pipes from the tappet covers via flame trap (not essentil) one to each carby
there should be one large fuel line with T to each carby (essentil) and a smaller T'ed blance fuel line (return) (not essentil)
if the diphram is ok oil in the tube is'nt essentil its only there for dampner on cruzing light throttel..
with the motor running pull the air fillter hoses off each side an watch the pistons in the carbys they should both be going up n down...if one aint while the motors running place long small screwdriver under the poston and lift it up manualy revs should change....I'v seen the piston stick, the seat wear a large hole and just dump fuel into the intake vally
P38 rover just recently put up good info on these carbys have a look t that may give you some better idieas

wortho we must av been typing at the same time them pipes are the engine breather pipes
one off each tappet cover need to be blocked off at the carby or connected back to the tappet cover

Interestingly, when I put this in I couldn't get it to run properly for the life of me. It just burped, farted, missed, stalled and most defiantely wouldn't run at all properly, let alone rev out. In the end the problem was just the black rubber tube that goes from 1 carby to the other in the pic above. I just hadn't vented it to the atmosphere and so the carbies were fighting each other rather than breathing properly. I was happy when I finally worked out what the problem was.

Fixed, turns out that the float bowls were full of sand, when i say full i mean full completly with sand. thanks for help.
