Thread: Coil springs - dumb Q

some do.....some dont.......

i dont think land rover matters which way they go in......i need to see them first.....

some have coils spaced differently at one end......and they need to be fitted the right way round......

if the springs are the same both ends.....and the ends look the same no matter which way you have them.....
then they should fit in either way........

D1's have the tight wound coils to the top on the rear(Progressive rate)

BUT, Some Defender fronts have the tight coils at the top, some at the botttom!

It dosen't make any diff as far as I can see.

I like to put the tight wound coils to the top, it's a personal preference of mine

If they're progressive though, fit the tighter coils at the top to help stop crap becoming stuck in there. Some Landys like the D2 do have a top and bottom, but it is immediately obvious which way they go in.

That is a good point.

Vlad, What Slunnie means about obvious is that D2's have a little pigtail on the bottom of the front coil. Can't be fitted any other way. I think rears are the same as D1's.

Also remember that front coils on Defender are handed.

Yep, but others reading this with other vehicles may be under an incorrect impression - which is why the D2 comment was in there. Also to say that if the springs have to go in one way then you will notice that the spring is different.

Anyway, tight coils on progressive springs go up.
