Fitting a Elect brake controller to a Landrover; someone should know !

Have recently purchased a 1999 Discovery Auto TD5 and am trying to fit an elect brake controller. It has a towbar fitted and has a Rover harness for trailer lights fitted into the RHS rear brake light assembly. The blue( elect brake) wire has been isolated( from the harness connector), but there is a facility within the harness connector to take this wire.

Question is; where is the other end [with a harness connector] that comes out in the dash/ engine compartment area ?

I assume that this harness connector is the one I could use to plug in the trigger wire( to the brake lights, [cold side]) and also the wire to the trailer connector( blue wire) that would make the whole thing work !

Would be grateful for any suggestions on where I should look.....

    Hi Maxrj,
There is no "other" end to this harness for the "Electric trailer brakes".
The blue wire is left out of the plug that connects to the wiring connector from the factory, if this wire is plugged into the plug it provides permanent power to pin 5 (which is normally the supply for the electric brakes) so is left out as mostly people want the brakes more than the power.
I gather u know this but in case u or someone else doesnt,
The Black +ve & White -ve wire go directly to the battery via a 30amp circuit breaker NOT fuse & The brake pick up (red) is connected to the brake switch under the steering column & the blue wire goes to the blue wire behind the tail light.

    Hi,

So just to clarify (2002 Discovery), would I need to run a blue wire from the controller all the way down the back to the plug? What is the best route?

    Thanks,
    Bruce

Handy post Maxrj as I too have a controller to be fitted.
For those in the know what to you do with the 2 wires on the electric drums????
Am I correct in thinking you run the 2 pairs to the plug 1 of each side goes earth and 1 of each side to pin 5(service brakes)
    Thanks
