ZF Auto
Hi, the ZF auto in my 1988 Rangie started to misbehave. Seemed to be slipping or perhaps the gears were sticking. It also clunks abit. Does this mean I'm up for a rebuild? What approximate costs would be involved? Cheers Derek

A proffessionally done full rebuild will be big $$. Including remove and refit, I would expect $4000 +.

Maybe the auto trans fluid is contaminated with water - have you taken it offroading in deep water?
Sometimes its possible to just clear the problem by replacing the fluid.
Drain some out and have a look at the condition of the ATF. If it's anything other than pink, it's probably time to flush the transmission.

Zf Auto
The ATF was a good colour. I had dropped the Rangie off at Roverland in Melb to check the auto, just before I started this thread. Hope a good service is all it needs. At least now I have an idea of the worst situation. I haven't forded any deep streams , but the vehicle has been used in the bush.Derek
