    D2 TD5 intercooler hose dramas

    Hi all,

just thought I'd add to the database, as it were, of info about intercooler hose problems in the TD5. This week I came back from Brissy in the Disco, no dramas and going very well. The day after the trip I was coming back from the shops and had a sudden, dramatic drop in power - the symptoms were different from those listed on this site, which is why I include them here. I had just idled over a speed bump near my house, then when getting back on the throttle there was nothing - the engine was obviously labouring but no turbo kick-in and no revs (less than 1000 rpm), heaps of black smoke. I got it home and thought - I'll get to that tomorrow!

Next morning I took the car for a lap around the block - no problem. I dropped my wife at the ferry terminal and then on the way back (about 15 min round trip) the same drama kicked in. As it was only happening once the car warmed up I suspected it might be one of the hoses - I had previously replaced the turbo hose with a silicone jobbie so I knew it wouldn't be that one.

I got home, jumped on-line and checked AULRO - seemed there was nothing quite the same as what I was experiencing, so I checked the intercooler hoses (with fingers crossed!) - the one with 2 right angles was the culprit, the hose was soft and the inside was collapsing.

Replaces all the hoses (except the one silicone hose already fitted) - no more problems. BTW - I used the standard rubber ones, the silicone are just too expensive, and given that these ones lasted 7 years I figure 7 more for half the price of silicone is fair enough!

Hope this can help someone else in the future.

Sounds like I have the same problem.....

Headed off to a mates place on Saturday..criuse control (cc) on. Took the off ramp and flicked cc off and rolled up to the intersection... put the foot down to pull away and got an extra 150 rpm.

I was able to roll off to the side of the road, restarted and got the "M" & "S" flashes staying on...the book states something about an electrical auto fault. Has shown't since.

    Haven't checked the hoses though.

Could this be the same or not?????

I think the flashing M&S indicates that the battery may be on the way out. This happened to my brother in laws disco and it turned out he needed to replace the battery. No problems since then.

Grab a volt metre a check the coltage of the abttery.
