OK, OEX list the Tdi 100 amp alternator as an MXA 831.

    Critical dimensions are:

    Left hand mount
    Pivot lug hole diam. 8.2mm
Adj. hole to pivot hole. 148mm
    Length foot to foot. 80mm
    Pulley diam. 53mm, 7 grooves.

Funny thing is that the Defender dimensions are listed as slightly different, but are in fact identical.

I have seen threads around on this and other forums that use the alt out of a Magna or V6 verada?? for the TDi alt replacement.

been through the Bosch catalogue with an Auto Leccy and nothing matches the mounting dimensions I've posted above.

Bushes were not as bad as we thought ,they had a few more 1000 k's left on em, so my mate John replaced the bearing inside ( whilst he had it pulled apart ) and I reinstalled original MM alt back on the car.

I'm still going to further investigate the option of placing a Generic 120A alt.

    thanks of your replies

I replaced my MM with frozen bearings, with a new Lucas atlernator, I thought it looked well made, external regulator on endplate, and servicable, ...time will tell I guess. I seems every time I drive on the sand at the beach another bearing dies.

why don't you get it rebuilt and rewound I remember in the old duff duff days we use to get our alternators rewound to make up the power loss for the amount of amplifiers we ran some times up to 6

ROVERNT I did notice you had a bit of a hearing problem when you came over my house before Xmas , were you not able to hear 200+ decibels of Choof Choof music ? having 6 Amps ? hehe just kidding Wow. Hey you may be able to give me a hand install 4 channel Amp somewhere inside the D1 and I'll help you in return with you rear Shelf / Storage unit.

Mate , what do you reckon ?

1 x 8" or 10" Sub in the read parcel shelf ,1 x 4 channel Amp to drive the Sub and 2 x 6" speakers under the seats . plus 6 really good quality 4" speakers which I have already installed . will that sound descent ? I don't want loudness , I 'm after clarity with a little bit of base.
