The cable itself is around the $130-140 mark (retail) from a LR dealer.
RTC4854 (that's assuming a 92 RR has the same cable as the 86).
Someone is making money but I have heard they can be tricky to fit.
Hi all,
Does anyone know what is the general cost for the kickdown cable to be replaced with a service as well?
I've been quoted between $280 and $500 and I'm wondering who is screwing up the cost of the cable. The cheapest guy said he gets them direct from ZF. Assuming the others are genuine LR.....
cheers

They are horrible to fit if it is your first, the next time you do it it is easy but you need to drop the pan and the valve body to change it so your first time you are normally really cautious not to stuff it up but it is pretty straight forward if you know what your doing.
My cable from LR dealer was $80 but it is time consuming and you may as well change the filter while you have the pan off and you have to replace the pan gasket anyway so the filter and gasket kit is about $45 from any parts shop and then 4.5ltrs of Dex 3 ATF will set you back about $15 to $25 unless your already using synth then it is about $50+ for 5ltrs so about $150 odd for parts and at least 3 hrs labour by someone who has done one before, 7 or 8 if your doing it yourself in the drive way.
It is a bit easier if you have a body lift.............I dont![]()
Thanks Gents,
Time is an issue atm so i've booked it in to the shop tomorrow. He assures me it'll be around $300 completed.

Got the Rangie back, turned out to be a broken return spring in the box and not the cable after all.
$300 including a service. I'm happy enough with that. Mechanic seemed to think the box was in good shape so I guess the auto and transfer will be going into the 83 RR to replace a LT95 with buggered transfer.
Cheers
