Non genuine air filters not sealing

Hi Guys
Anybody had trouble with COOPERS TD5 airfilters not sealing correctly in the airbox?????
I cleaned my MAF sensor a few months back,and fitted a new COOPERS airfilter at the same time.
Had it apart today and there is a lite coating of red dust on the screen of the MAF.On inspecting the airbox the seal between the filter and lid appears to have been letting dust in,not huge amounts but its there.
NOT REAL HAPPY!!!!!!

there is some plastic tabs on the bottom half of the housing that can get bent over and under the air cover housing stopping it from sealing a stealer did that to me along time ago but picked up on it.It is a easy thing to do when putting the top cover back on

I know they are a tad fiddly to fit but pretty sure its right.I will re fit to make doubly sure.
Usually keep 1 old filter just in case,but cant find the last one(genuine),the shed is a brothel at the moment!!!! The rubber lid doesnt seem quite thick enough.

Do the OE ones seal either??

My stealer went one step further and didn't do up the airbox clips at all...

Yeah I noticed the same thing yesterday. I have a Cooper filter and noticed a lot of dust around the MAF. Think I might try an original next time.

Any idea on how to clean the dust off the MAF?

CRC contact cleaner,flood it it evaporates off.
Put the tube on it and flush the sensor from the rear.

Hi Andy,
I come across this a lot, The Air filter box in these is very poorly designed and made from distortable plastic

(In addition to having the air filter incorrectly fitted and those tabs damaging the housing/ filter

)
I use rubber grease around the air filter element seal, both sides.

This will stop most if not all dust entering past the filter.

Maybe the box too Andy. Mine on the Fender seals perfectly using Coopers filters.
