    you do an initial check when its cold as it gives you a comparative figure to work from. it doenst matter if you do it before or after the hot check 360 isnt too bad for a cold tdi300 and they seem to be the same, ask him to do a hot check and sniffer the coolant.

    Excuse my ignorance Dave, but what is sniffer the coolant? Thats a new one on me, do you test the coolant for fuel or soot contamination? Will most mechanics have the equipment for this? Ballarat ARB were the only ones I could find in the phone book able to compression test the disco, so is it something they would have.

    Sniff the coolant

    It will be a test for exhaust gas chemicals in the coolant to see if yoiu have a head gasket problem
