1 holds the thrust bearing to the fork and is listed as "only an aid to assembly dislogment during service is not likely to cause future problems" the other is on the rod to the fork and is only there to hold the rod in place while you assemble the slave cylinder.
you can stick em with goop and Ive used a small nylon noose tied in such a way that pulling the running end sticking out the bell housing drain allows the string to pull out when its all done.
