    Todays time filler

    Tilley X359 - Made from 1959 - 1960.

    Slightly worse for wear

Stripped down, new seals fitted to the bottom end and control cock, and a new Tilley 606 vaporiser. Burner stripped and soaked in degreaser to remove carbon and waxy deposits.

Re assembly of burner unit, now free of crud. Exhaust cement used on burner threads where they loosen due to continual heating/cooling - just use a little bit! Once the burner is fully assembled spray it with a bit of WD40 to ensure that none of the passages are blocked with cement. LET IT DRY

Burner all back together, dry and free from any flammable fumes. Best not to use exhaust cement on the air button screws - they can be tightened externally if needs be anyway with a screwdriver.

Give the glass a jolly good clean (a little bit stained, nothing would get it 100% clean). There is always a lot of soot on the underside of the hood.

Lubricate pump leather, fill with fresh fuel, pressure it up and check for leaks, fit new mantle, clip hood back on.....

    Nice.

    I got one too!
Hangs in the back of the lightweight on some fishin excursions.
If you use "scentless kerosene" it's not as stinky.

I get bits for these and Alladin lamps from "Eric the Lamp Man" in Maylands,
    Perth.
