    County advice (3.9D electrical) please

    Hi guys/gals,

I could do with some advice on the electrical wiring on my County as my heater/aircon fan cuts out w/o notice and later restarts (again w/o notice)

On p34 of the 1987 LR110 Aus supplement (owner's handbook), is the wiring diagram for the aircon system....

Items 9 & 12 are shown as diodes and Item 10 is shown as a thermal cutout.

If some kind person could tell me where these items are physically located in the vehicle, I would sure appreciate the advice -

'cause I haven't been able to find them

    thanks

Dont know exactly on yours - but normally (hey this is a LR - so normally may not cut it) the diodes/resistors/cut outs are in a nifty little box on the side of the fan motor - exit air side.

As I say thats a normal position -

    thanks for that ladas

I had assumed that the unit you described was just a connector box

I had been right off track, looking behind the dash fascia

Now you've pointed it out and I've managed to find it in the ws manual

and for future ref for any interested members - it is shown in a sketch on p25 Sec 82 (book 5)

thanks again mate, saved me a bit of time...

87 county there is a set of resistors that are used to control fan speed and they are used to control the fan speed of the fan that blows air into the cabin. It is found just in front of the fan bolted to the edge of the mudguard usually. They do suffer from burning out.
I thought the thermal cut out was involved with the thermo fans.

yep, thanks for confirming the resistor block locn

from what you write it may not include the thermal cut-out?

if so I still don't know where the thermal cut-out is physically located but it may not be an issue for my fan cutting-out problem anyway...

haven't had a chance to dismantle things yet

both ladas and woveroverings posts have set me on the right track at least

Normally (yes back to that issue again) when the fan is on full speed all resistors are by-passed.

So if you are having issues with the fan on full speed it is not the resistors.

The resistors are there to reduce (resist) voltage to the fan motor - and thus slow it down.

The thermal cut out - errrr, I will check what diagrams I have - but at the end of the day - the power goes from the resistor block to the motor, maybe via a thermal cut out
