To do this conversion, am I right in thinking that it is the rear RRC stub Axle I need. (Are they different to the front stub axles).
Same with the Disco rotars and calipers, are these from the rear or are both front and rear the same?
I already will need to get my project engineered as the front middle seat has been removed for a console box. Would this brake conversion be a straight forward engineer approval?
    Thanks,

I have done this conversion a couple of times and what I did was use early 110 single seal front hubs with disco rear discs (rotors) and 300tdi disco rear callibers with the post 94 sailsbury caliper carriers and 300tdi brake pads as for the Master cylinder they were only rationalised in 92/93 and are completely different and recquire complete replumbing . My own conversion was done to a 1985 110 with a 300tdi to an lt77s with a 1.2 transfer box , and never failed a D.O E. test for the brakes. The vehicle is now awaiting an engine after 360,000 miles before #4 came out for a look see one morning at about 85mph.

Does anyone have some of the caliper brackets they could take some pics and messurements of for us? it might be easier and cheaper to try and make our own, i am broke for the time being thanks to my other car and with rego due on my county i need to get the brakes sorted out. I have pretty much all the bits i need from an old rangie just need the brackets to make the calipers bolt on.

My '86 County was already converted by the previous owner. He said he used a "factory conversion kit". When I was looking for my County I thought they all had disc rears until I came across one with drum brakes and found that was the standard. Every one I had looked at before that had disc rear.

I have read some material which points out that if the wrong hub is used then the axle splines will not engage fully with the side gears in the diff due to the end of the hub being further out. Something to be aware of.....
I plan to do this conversion fairly soon. Would be great to have a definitive list of compatible parts - it seems there are quite a few combinations, some of which are bolt in, some which require machining of the bracket and some which require machining of the outer hub mating surface.

Its also worth noting that 110 rear calipers are larger than RRC/Disco calipers and the rotors are nearly twice as thick. It is possible to use 110 calipers and rotors with the brackets but machining of bracket and/or hub may be required.

Thanks Keith! Great info as usual!

I thought that RRC/Disco rear calipers were smaller than defender rears though? I know one conversion which uses RRC front calipers!

Mark - from about 1993/4, the bearing spacing in the hab was narrowed, which meant the axles needed to be about 10mm shorter (all vehicles with the narrower hub spacing had discs as standard). The problem you mention would only arise if you fitted early stub axles and hubs, to a late model axle casing, or tried fitting later model axles to an early model axle casing. But NFI why you would do either.

This link Drum brake 110 salisbury disc brake conversion - LR4x4 - The Land Rover Forum has photos of the bracket.

He used an early 110 front hub which seems to be fairly commonly done. I dont know how these differ if at all from RRC/D1 rear hubs but I suspect there is a difference. I have heard of the need to machine material off the hub face when using a 110 FRONT hub but I dont know why. This guy also had to space out his brackets rather than machine material off but this was probably due to the use of a 110 rear caliper and rotor. I'm stilll confused......

I know that the only difference between a 85 110 and an 84 RRC front stub is the bush for the CV the rest is the same and the hubs are also the same
