Thermo's are the go a lot of people use ford twin thermo fans but buy original as i bought chinese made ones and they were fine until i put my caravan on the back.So i have gone back to the original for now until this one stops working and then source a better set up.Regards Brett

IF you dont mind the power loss you can just sieze the viscus by drilling 4 holes in it and then running bolts right the way through it.

the ford thermo fans are a good solution but dont like deep water fording.. (which being from a ford youd think would be ok)

if you only need a little bit more you can wire on the thermo fans for the aircon by disconnecting the signal wire for the controlling relay and tapping that back to the coil feed as a temporary solution. They wont cool the engine enough by themselves but they will help out a dying viscus just enough to get you home.

When you replace your fan, you should only need to replace the centre and not the plastic fins (unless they are broken also). Shop around, I bought the center about 2 years ago for $180 from Range Rov in Mitcham, Vic.

Even the plastic fans are only around $120

is there much work involved in putting on the ford thermo fans, ive always been a fan of them (LOL i just made myself laugh ) if i had realized the viscous fan had died before leaving Broome i may have been able to bolt it up, didnt realise it until i was 100 k's out of town, so i limped home stopping regularly to top up expansion tank, i made it back after a slow 9 1/2 hours instead o the 5 3/4 hr it normaly takes, but i think i saved any damage... time will tell i guess.... as i said ill be in Sydney for a couple of weeks so ill do some shopping around...any hints to good LR spare parts places would be appreciated

am I missing something here?
While Broome would be a touch warm this time of year,, I always thought an engine fan does little at highway speeds,, ??
(except disrupt the faster cooler flow of air from the grill)

maybe i have more problems, but the viscous fan isnt cutting in it is just being driven by the fan belt atm, .... maybe there is more to it... the radiator has been cleaned, new water pump installed.... water flow seems to be ok....
