    Extended Warranty

    G'day All,

My factory warranty will run out soon and I am looking at getting an extended warranty for my vehicle.

Any tips on which company to use and/or things to watch out for would be welcomed and appreciated.

    TIA.

Any non manufacturer extended warranty l have ever seen is really a insurance type product that provides set amount of cash per event and total cash per vehicle, so you need to work out what is likely to go wrong as it may not be a covered event under the policy.

Secondly as insurance policy they do require you provide them with copies of all serive work done in accordance with service schedule otherwise policy is void and none claimable.

This means your stuck with dealer service schedule costs or reputable servicer costs not do it home yourself servicing again dollar costs need to be assessed.

Also depending on age and mileage of vehicle they require a service like every 3 months and 5000km regardless of manufacturer service schedule.

Read the fine print and remember the void warranty (insurance) at drop of hat if they can avoid paying out.

I bought mine for $1200 through swann insurance I went to my local holden dealer and they fixed it up for me because those lazy land rover guys don't care. The car must be less than 100000km and it must have the book stamped by a mechanic at every service interval

as cartm58 said, read the fine print. Mine said that not only did I have to get a service every 5000km by a "certified land rover mechanic" but that I had to send the service receipts to them within seven days of the service. Miss one by a day and your whole warranty is void.

Are you talking an extention of the manufacturers warranty or an after market warranty? In my Humble opinion ( as someone who sells these as part of my job, being a car salesman) you really need to way up your need for it.
Yes some warranties ( generally the extended manufacturers warranty) you have to service with the dealer but most after market warranties generally require just a licienced mechanic to service the vehicle.
In my experience you want to avoid dealership servicing and although I currenty only sell used 4x4"s I have worked in many New car yards and have seen time and time again the dramas caused by 16yr apprentices servicing the cars in dealerships. whats the good in spending top dollar for a service done by a novice!!

with the warranties look at the service intervals required the max ammount per claim, the max amount of claims allowed and any klm limits, there are pletty around with 6 month/10,000ks services unlimited claims &unlimited klms...

I been doing this a fair while and I still cant see the value in any of them.

    Extended Warranty Insurance

I have an extended warranty package bought through a LR dealer. It is an Allianz policy. Covers everything that the new vehicle warranty would have covered but allows servicing and warranty work to be done by any licenced mechanic. Cost approx $1,800 for three years. I would have to say that in the 18 months we have had it, it has paid for itself already.

I came across another insurer yesterday that you could check out. It was at A1 Car Broker Car Buying Service and Car Brokers. . They quoted a five year warranty on a D2 for approx $900, though there was an excess for each claim. I have not read the fine print yet so cannot vouch for anything else about them.

Franz, I purchased an extended warranty when I bought my DII from a dealer in July 07. It cost me about $1200 and has already paid itself off. The warranty is for two years as a vehicle cannot be more than 7 years old since the first registration date..

This warranty covers 95% of all repairs, similar to the manufacturers warranty and service intervals must not be more than 10,000ks or 6 months from any garage.

I had a torque converter fail at 89,000ks in December and the whole repair was covered except for the oils. In this repair, a new torque converter was quoted at $4200, however they sourced a second hand unit for a third of the price and the repair was done promptly. Again, I dropped off my vehicle today to an approved AWN auto electrician to diagnose and repair the notorious "Three Amigos" dash lights problem.

The warranty company is Australian Warranty Network (AWN) in Brisbane.

    I wouldn’t have a Landrover without a warranty!

    I hope this helps……

That's interesting - I just called Swann and they advised me that Land Rover was not on the list of vehicles thay do extended warranties for - when did you extend your warranty?

    Scott,

I would like to extend the warranty on my vehicle - I would buy an extended warranty from the dealer if it were still available - but, alas it isn't. So, the idea is to purchase a extended warranty from a third party to cover the cost of parts & labour in the event of problems.
