    **1993 3.9L V8 Disco - Good Buy??**

    G'day guys

Just a heads up on a vehicle a mate is looking at buying, being a Defender man, don't know much about S1 Disco's:

    1993 3.9L V8 Disco
    Gas
    Auto
    190,000kms
    New brakes/tyres
    Tow bar
    Snorkel
    $3500
    Female owner/Second owner
    Gas
Service History - "every 6 months"
    No off road use
    Towed horse float

    Issue:
Needs a transmission (auto) - "go into gear, won't change gears though" (is what she said.

SO - is it worth looking at? What is a trans worth? Would want to put a manual in it?

He has $6000 to spend in total...

    Appreciate ANY advice

Mike, not a bad price, but it'll want to be in good nick with a broken ZF... A second hand auto will set him back about $800.00 and will be an easy fit. BUT, I would just have a look at it first and see if you are getting first gear and not changing up. This will be a governor fault, and can be fixed with the trans in the vehicle. (transfer case and extension housing off and there is the governor...) Sticking governors are usually excaserbated by lack of oil changes and overheating.(Towing horse floats??)

Get it for as little as poss, as you could be up for more than the auto...

At 180k the bottom end is just getting run in but the cam/ chain etc start to wear, i have had 2 rangies with older 3.5's that had 270k on original motors that still went well.
